The last rays of the sun are captured in the snowflake grass florescence shaded in pink and apricot, creating a beautiful soft contrast against their golden stalks on the darkening horizon. A dry wild seringa offers the ideal safe communual roosting spot for some amur falcons to rest their weary wings after traveling from eastern China, a long and tiresome journey over the sea. Their frail, but yet built for endurance and speed little bodies' outline the tree - creating a picturesque scene.

In the west an orange sickle-shaped moon makes its appearance slowly rising above the horizon and gradually turns into the most beautiful silver - crowning the African night sky. As the day is greeted with darkness, the stars become more prominent showing off their radient brilliance. All adding to the natural ambiance the bush has to offer.

Back at the lodge hungry flames devour the dry wood. A warm welcome with towels and Amarula welcomes the guests back from their game drive. The candle light creating a beautiful atmosphere were guests are ushered to have a drink around the fire before sitting down to experience and enjoy Jabu’s reknowed food. Another perfect African night…

After the morning game drive, big blue-grey thunder clouds are rounded up by a breeze on the horizon. From the deck faded colours in a distance indicate the rain's progress. On the plains antelope stand head down with their backs facing the downpour of rain. Large drops fall on the canopy of trees and trickles down their rough bark to the sandy soil. Little rundowns are formed as drops gather and become a way of transporting nutrient rich particles to the bottom parts of the hills.

The bush is transformed into a clean and bright wonderland with many different colour shades. Dark blue skies together with the bright green trees and yellow grassy plains with antelope and giraffes make the most striking pictures and memories.

Our Game Drives

The recently (17 January 2012) introduced two male cheetahs are coping well in their new environment already having made a couple of kills. Being two young (less than 2years of age) brothers, they are very inquisitive, still exploring their new territory which means they cover great distances a daily.  But we are looking forward to these two young boys to settle in just fine and having regular sightings of them.

We have been blessed with amazing sightings the previous month:  a crash of 10 rhinos together with a breeding herd of about 25 buffalo, on another drive we saw some great crocodile and hippo interaction with a large crocodile tempting the hippos’ who where peacefully sleeping’s patience. On another day after a good rain shower giraffes playfully running on the plains together with large herds of eland and zebras.  Then we had a digging aardvark, the most beautiful elephant sightings where they were walking down the road and taking mud showers and even two very special cheetah sightings, one being where they were chasing zebra and we nearly saw fresh hyena tracks on a daily base.  The bird viewing also being good with pintailed wydahs, special sighting of the illusive orange breasted bushshrikes, brown snake eagles and ground hornbills.
